Benefit for the Grolier Poetry Bookshop

Friday August 29, 2003
from Oni Buchanan & Jon Woodward:
“Dear Poets and Poetry Lovers,
It seems that all among us are ever on the lookout for any occasion to help Louisa Solano and the Grolier Poetry Bookshop. Here is one, albeit makeshift, to which we invite all of you:
Benefit Piano Recital for the Grolier
Friday, September 19, at 8 pm
Adams House, Lower Common Room
Cambridge, Massachusetts”
“Please attend a Benefit Piano Recital, given in order to raise money for the Grolier Poetry Bookshop, and to honor both the store and its owner, Louisa Solano, who more or less single-handedly runs the entire operation of the Grolier, managing all aspects of the store’s operation in addition to organizing and sponsoring the highly esteemed Grolier Poetry Reading Series, numerous autograph parties, and the annual Grolier Poetry Contest (the last three co-sponsored by the Ellen La Forge Memorial Poetry Foundation).

“There will be a donation basket at the door, and any donation will be welcome and appreciated. All donations will go exclusively to the Grolier. The piano recital will be performed by me [Oni Buchanan], and the hour-long recital program will feature:
Bach, Partita No. 2 in C Minor
Bartok, Six Dances in Bulgarian Rhythm
Mark Applebaum, Omnibus Etude
Prokofiev, Sonata No. 2 in D Minor
“If you are unable to attend the September 19 recital, but would still like to contribute to the Grolier benefit, please send a check made out to the Grolier Poetry Bookshop to:
Grolier Benefit Piano Recital
c/o The Grolier Poetry Bookshop
6 Plympton Street
Cambridge, MA 02138
“Please forward this email on to anyone you know who cares about poetry and about the Grolier. The advertising for this benefit is a solely email-based campaign, and unfortunately, Louisa’s many mailing lists have been accidentally deleted from her computer, and so we are relying wholly on email forwarding and word-of-mouth to reach the many, many people who are deeply invested in the Grolier’s survival.

“If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to email either Jon Woodward (alternymous@hotmail.com) or Oni Buchanan (onibuchanan@yahoo.com). We look forward to seeing you on Friday, September 19, and we thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
Oni Buchanan and Jon Woodward”
