Want to talk about nepotism in pobiz?
Monday April 12, 2004
Then visit Foetry, the new Web site that’s “exposing the fraudulent ‘contests’... tracking the sycophants... naming names.” We can’t yet know if Foetry will evolve into a truth-telling service for poets choosing which competitions warrant the effort & cost of entry, or descend into snarky sour-grapes gossip -- especially since the editors choose to remain anonymous. But it’s a great idea: to make public hidden connections between contest judges & the winners they choose, the lines of influence among writing programs & publishing houses, workshop faculty & students & editors. And the public forum at Foetry opens space for poets to share their experiences & explore the ethics of poetry publishing.
