Then visit Foetry, the new Web site that’s “exposing the fraudulent ‘contests’... tracking the sycophants... naming names.” We can’t yet know if Foetry will evolve into a truth-telling service for poets choosing which competitions warrant the effort & cost of entry, or descend into snarky sour-grapes gossip -- especially since the editors choose to remain anonymous. But it’s a great idea: to make public hidden connections between contest judges & the winners they choose, the lines of influence among writing programs & publishing houses, workshop faculty & students & editors. And the public forum at Foetry opens space for poets to share their experiences & explore the ethics of poetry publishing.
