Reviewing Oxford poetry professor Christopher Ricks’ new book on Bob Dylan’s songs, Dylan’s Visions of Sin (HarperCollins, 2004), DeLuca gets to the heart of the matter right away: “Do great pop songs qualify as great poems?”

Citing Dylan as the source of our “accepted belief that songwriters are poets,” Carlson reviews Corgan’s newly released collection of poems, Blinking with Fists (Faber & Faber, 2004), and finds it wanting. But in the process she makes an interesting distinction between music writing & page writing.
