Walla Walla Poetry Party brings poets from all over to heartland Washington state
Monday March 7, 2005
from Charles Potts:
“The Walla Walla Poetry Party, always a popular favorite, will present its 2005 rendition upstairs in The Temple at 129 E Alder, April 14-16, each evening from 7-10 pm. April is National Poetry Month and terrific poets from New York, Michigan, Texas, Tennessee and California will be joining poets from Walla Walla and the Pacific Northwest to celebrate the poetic rites of spring.
“Nationally and internationally known poets Sharon Doubiago, Hugh Fox, Janine Pommy Vega, Andy Clausen, Klyd Watkins, klipschutz, dan raphael, and Brandon Follett will be reading, several for the first time in Walla Walla. In keeping with the intent to present original poetry by well known poets alongside work by poets with developing reputations, attendees can also hear the work of Gregg Schnorr, Amy Rootvik, Kaia Sand, Ed Foy and Janice King of Walla Walla, as well as other out of town guests, Scott Pierce and Doug Warriner of Austin, Texas, Julian Raine of La Grande, Oregon, Tom I. Davis and Dennis Held of Spokane, Paul Nelson of Auburn, Amanda Divine of Richland, and Jeremy Gaulke of Yakima....” (continued on next page)

“Books by visiting poets will be displayed for sale and autographing plus a communal potluck dinner will be held after each performance. Once again the proceedings will be audio and video taped for the production of future DVDs and CDs. DVDs from last year’s standing room only Poetry Party will also be available.
“Free and open to the public, each program will feature four readers preceded by several brief readings outlined in a program guide produced with the help of local sponsors, cafes and wineries. Aficionados of poetry in Walla Walla always enjoy meeting informally with visiting poets in bookstores and coffee shops during the deliberately unscheduled mornings and afternoons prior to the evening festivities. A special musical treat this year will be a Friday appearance by The Charlie Potts Magic Windmill Band and their original New York country style music. Hailing originally from Austin, Texas, band members Travis Catsull and Dirk Michener get a lot of radio play, in Walla Walla on KWCW, and their third CD will be released shortly.
“Featured and open readings have been held on The Temple premises since 1995 and in The Temple Bookstore at 40 S. Colville since its September 2002 opening. The Old Masonic Temple was designed and built by Henry Osterman and The Masons one hundred years ago in 1905. The first Walla Walla Poetry Party was held in 1990 at the YWCA. The party is produced and organized by a committee for The Temple, a not for profit corporation. For more information or to pick up a poster or program prior to the readings, drop in The Temple Bookstore or call 509.522.0766.”
