Winners chosen in the August InterBoard Poetry Competition
Sunday August 28, 2005
In his first month as IBPC judge Dave Brinks has awarded first prize to “Jack’s Belly Button” by Jenni Russell, a prose poem that moves from quotidian domesticity to breathtaking fantasy. Rather than ranking all his choices, Brinks has selected three additional poems for honorable mention: “Linen” by Christine Kiefer, “Grapefruit” by Lisa Prince & “For Coyote, A Reflection,” by Myra South. He has not offered any commentary, so it is up to you, our readers, to discern the elements in these poems that prompted his choices. Because he lives in New Orleans, we are sure his thoughts are directed to more urgent matters in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. We thank him for serving as IBPC judge & wish him well.
