The National Book Festival: To go or not to go?
Wednesday September 21, 2005
from Stephanie Holbrook, on behalf of the Library of Congress:
“As all those who live and breathe literature know, nothing is better than a chance to meet your favorite celebrities, writers and storytellers. On September 24, 2005, the fifth annual National Book Festival will allow just that. Bringing together over 85 award-winning authors with booklovers and fans from around the country, individuals of all ages are invited to participate in this free cultural event, sponsored by the Library of Congress and hosted by first lady Laura Bush. Now in its fifth year, the 2005 National Book Festival is expected to be the biggest yet. A full list of participating authors, illustrators and poets can be found on the Festival’s Web site.
“If you cannot make it to the Festival in Washington, DC, don’t worry! During the week leading up to the festival, WashingtonPost.com will host a series of online chats with authors appearing at the National Book Festival. Those who cannot attend will be able to participate virtually and interact live with their favorite writers. Authors scheduled to participate in the online chats include David Baldacci, John Feinstein, Diana Gabaldon, Dana Gioia, Andrea Mitchell, Karin Slaughter, R.L. Stine and Judith Warner. Viewers can not only submit questions in advance or during the live discussion, but they can also view authors’ responses while the program is airing live or at a later date on WashingtonPost.com’s online discussion archive. These text-based discussions can be viewed daily starting on Monday, September 19. The schedule of chats and authors’ names will be posted on WashingtonPost.com and the Library of Congress site.”
