Poetry Out Loud: A new national recitation contest
Monday November 21, 2005
from the National Endowment for the Arts & The Poetry Foundation:
“High school students across the nation to compete in national recitation contest”
“The Foundation and the NEA announce Poetry Out Loud, the expansion phase of a program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance, and competition. Starting in early 2006, schools in each state capital region will participate in classroom and schoolwide contests, advancing to state competitions next April and National Finals in Washington, DC, next May.” So choose your favorites, kids (there is a growing library of poems at the Poetry Out Loud site), and get to rehearsing -- the national champion will win a $20,000 college scholarship!
