Ann Reinhardt Cantu ONCE Russell F. Inerfeld Harvey Novack (YANKEEDOG)WELFARE
So is it any wonder
The caged wolf bites--
Needs unmet--
For the packs companionship,
For the grass beneath,
The sky above,
The wind ruffling fur?
Try to curb the wild dog,
Rein in fears
Better left to roam,
Quell the hunger
For the hunt,
Then obscurely wonder
Why the hand that feeds
Is left with wounds to lick.
Once in life
you reach
for the truth,
but reality
tells you lies.
Once in life
you cry
for the sake of happiness
or simply when
the tears
will not flow.
Once in life
the touch of joy
is felt within
the innards of
your soul.
Once in life
you'll love
and not be loved
but learn
to love yourself.
Once in life
you'll dance with
The angel of your heart
then watch her
disappear.
Once in life
you'll walk hand in hand
with someone who
looks at you
with your own eyes.
Once in life
dreams will become
materialized
only for lessons
to be learned.
Once in life
you'll see a rainbow
the sky a royal blue
and not a drop of rain
will fall.
LIGHTNESS
Cap down low, eyes slant slit,
Muttered slurred sneer,
Dying hipster on a gurney
Backlot Rathbone fog wells,
Rising slow, stately
Escapes to reveal the infinite ladder
Man rises slow,
Takes first painful rung,
Then the lightning comes
And he flies the rest of the way
