THE CONSTITUENTS OF SAND

The tip of your nose
      (a shark fin
      an ancient pyramid of cartilage)
tails me to dry land where

sand obstructs my gills
like a wet magazine on the beach,
sticky and misshapen,
armored with discarded fragments
of fallen continents
and Coca Cola bottles.
