William, Sweet William, Sweet William McLain
Prolific Poet, Eternal Swain
William, Sweet William, I’ll say it again
His prowess with verse and the ladies remains
Stronger at 90 than those half his age
The life of the party, by which others gauge
Their hopes for their own ability to rage
Against the passing of time with wisdom so sage
Not even to mention his vigor and vim
There are few who can really keep up with him
His energy seems to never dim
Always ready to follow each poetic whim
None better for sharing times joyous or blue
Many are the times that he saw me through
Such a noble friend, loyal and true
William, Sweet William, I’ll always love you
