Collapse
by Wynne Mercado

Yellow canary
carries solemn warnings true
leave now for safe lives,
personal mortality
placed on mind's forefront again.

Earth's bowels shaking;
eagles with olive branches
soar over hot steel,
hushing the river Hudson
when crickets cease their sole plight.
