Mom and Willie
by Kim Holzer

Mom is a member of the Big Stakes Club
on the Queen Victoria Boat in Rising Sun, Indiana.
It's like being one of those frequent shoppers
except she's a frequent gambler.
So they give her a lot of free stuff.
It makes her think she's coming out ahead.

Last month, Queen Victoria sent her two tickets
to see Willie Nelson play live on the boat.
She called to tell me
that it was a really super concert
and Willie Nelson is one nice guy.
She sort of met him after the show.
From the edge of the stage,
she tugged on his jeans
and hollered up to him,
“Can I have your autograph?”
She gave him her ticket stub and a pen.
He signed it.

She thanked him,
and wanted to make sure he knew it.
So she patted his leg again and waved.
Now, Mom tells people that Willie Nelson
has very thin ankles
for someone with such a nice singing voice.
