Your Favorite Line in the Poem
I like the line, “So Eden sank to grief.”
The Multiple Meanings
To me it also tells the story of the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. All that it held was gold, and then their eyes were opened, and and all things changed, and nothing gold could stay. I relate to the sinking of Eden. but really God took the tree of life back (it is in Revelations).
This poem holds memories also of when I played in a forest in the back of my parents’ home in the 60s. It held its own gold, but then they put apartments back there and destroyed our forest. I cried. Nothing gold can stay.
Don’t put too much into things here, because, nothing stays the same. The poem has let me see the things I could have kept and changed had it been in my power, but it wasn’t to be. I was just a little girl. Everything was gold to me back then, and my memories outlast the change that took place.
Lessons Learned
You must hold on to the things that matter to you, in your heart always, and the hue and color of those memories will last there, always.
